Sorroundings and Activities

The hidden heart of Tuscany to discover and experience

Our staff is at your complete disposal to organize and personalize any activity

Mount Amiata and its woods

The unmistakable skyline of Mount Amiata is visible from afar: when the sky is clear you can see it from the coast of Uccellina and the island of Giglio, from the Chianti hills and the rocks of Terminillo, from the waters of  Lake Trasimeno and those of Lake Bolsena.
From its peak, 1,738 metres in height, you can enjoy the view over a breathtaking landscape of Tuscany: the Sienese Clay, the sea, the surrounding mountains.

Thermal Baths

Nearby, about fifteen minutes’ drive away, you can dive into warm thermal waters, choosing among the impressive San Filippo hot springs, the elegant Baths of San Casciano, or the ancient thermal baths in Bagno Vignoni which offers a stunning view over the Orcia Valley.

Wine routes

The San Bartolomeo Convent gives fine wine lovers the opportunity to discover the most popular wineries situated in Montepulciano and Montalcino, less than an hour’s drive from the Convent. On request, we can arrange tastings of fine wines and local products in the special setting of our wine cellar.

History and Culture

Travelling southwards, beyond the Chianti area you can visit Siena and then the Val d’Orcia, from which you arrive at Pienza. From its Belvedere the skyline of Mount Amiata, which Pope Julius II called “an island of Switzerland in Italy” can be seen.
About 800 meters high on Mount Amiata on the edge of the lava flow, you can see a picturesque series of medieval villages, including Piancastagnaio where the San Bartolomeo Convent is situated.
